EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF TREATMENT OF THE OSSEOUS FRACTURE WITH ACUPUNCTURE

Dr. J.A. Vecino et al. (Spain)

We have performed a. study of the effect of acupuncture on ossification process, and more specifically on fractures.

We selected 2 groups of rabbits, which we realize an experimental osteotomy of 2 m.m. diameter, at the level of the diaphisis in femur.

One group (24) was treated with acupuncture, accompanied of frequence low electric stimulation in the same points.

The control group (12) did not receive any treatment, and the fracture continued the spontaneous process of osseous consolidation.

In the comparative study we have observed differences in the structural plane (the disposition of osteoblast at the aspect of bone trabeculae), than in biochemical plane (ion concentrations, calcium and phosphorus).
