DO WE NEED DISTANT POINTS?

P. Rosted - M.D. (U.K. England)

According to Chinese textbooks distant points are nearly always recommended when using acupuncture. For example is acupuncture point St-36 recommended among other points in the treatment of asthma. Is there a logical explanation for using this point, or are we just using this point because we have been told? The author challenges the use of distant points and discusses a logic approach to deter-mine, if a distant point should be used or not. Furthermore the author discusses the scientific background for using distant points.
